New and established businesses from across the county took advantage of the recent inaugural Angus Business Week.

The event involved a full programme of event, form talks by motivational speakers including Sir Steve Redgrave seminars about improving internet connectivity, one-to-one appointments with advisers to look at the benefits of social media and advice from business experts from a variety of fields.

Alison Smith, economic development manager with Angus Council, one of the partners in business week, said the week had been a resounding success.

She said: “This was our first Angus Business Week and we are delighted with the response from the local businesses community. From people with an idea for an exciting new venture to family businesses hoping to expand to large companies with an eye on the global market place, they all signed up to the many events held throughout Angus last week.

“Angus Business Week provided a high level of intensive, tailored support to local companies and will hopefully encourage many of these firms to take the next step in their development and, ultimately, reach their full potential.”

Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce was also a partner in the week and Alison Henderson, interim chief executive and vice-president, also praised the week’s success.

She added: “Our business breakfast, ‘A Personal Leadership Journey’, was extremely well attended and the audience very much enjoyed and were inspired by hearing the stories of how three local entrepreneurs and employers built their organisations, and how their individual leadership styles shaped their and their team’s journeys.”

Although the majority of the events were aimed at local businesses, the well attended Angus Natural Energy Showcase at Forfar Mart was open to members of the public and provided opportunities to talk to suppliers and installers of a range of renewable technologies, as well as talks by experts about relevant issues, such as government incentives and support.
