The legacy of this year’s Angus Rotary Marafun lives on with the presentation of a cheque to the Ninewells Cancer Campaign.

Local roofing and solar PV installers Forster, the event’s medal sponsors, signed up three teams for the relay run in May and on Friday presented a cheque for over £1,500 to the charity.

Dave Valentine, Marafun convener, said: “Forster’s have been great sponsors. As well as raising a fantastic amount, their efforts have raised the profile of the event”.

Following successful finishes from all three Forster teams, £1,584.22 was raised for the Dundee-based cancer charity.

John Forster, Forster Group chairman, said: “We are delighted to support the exceptional work of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign by raising much-needed funds and helping to raise awareness of the charity.”

The funds were raised mainly through the generous contributions of a number of Forster suppliers and partners and through donations made by Forster staff, friends and family members.

Kristaps Bezbailis, Forster Marketing Graduate, said: “We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations. We got an amazing response and the motivating messages really helped.

“We are already looking forward to taking part in the next Angus Marafun in two years’ time and hopefully we can sign up even more teams.”

Aubrey Wood, the vice-chairman of the NCC, said: “On behalf of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, I would like to thank all the individuals at the Forster Group who got together and raised the magnificent total of almost £1,600 at the Forfar Marafun.

“This really will make a difference to the work at the new Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre, where world leading research is being carried out into the causes and treatment of cancer. Well done!”

The Forster teams which pounded the streets of Forfar on May 25 comprised Jamie Robbie, Brian Wilson, Graeme Low, Lauren Forbes, Peter Barrow, Kristaps Bezbailis, Bruce Raffell, Stephen Ward, Mark Yule, Craig Bell, Paul Wood, Colin Graham, Rebecca Keith, Maureen and Shannon Douglas.
