Round two of Suttieside Curling Club’s Bonnyman Shield was played on Saturday.
Linda Kemp, with Brian Kelly, Barry Eggleton and Flora Dargie maintained their good start with a three-shot win over David Shephard’s rink of Ann Kellie, Yvelynne Owens and Helen Bowie.
Subbing for Craig Anderson for the second week, Andy Cooper, with Ian Stewart, Lynne Borrie and Mary Aronson overcame Bob Ogilvy’s rink of Lorraine Grieve, Arron Duncan and Jan Brown by an eight-shot margin.
The other two games were tight affairs.
Ian Taylor, with Lesley Young, Anne Cant and David Hewitt gave up a three at the last end but managed to hold off Ian Kellie’s rink of Lorna Anderson, Joyce Anderson and Eva Webster by a single shot.
Meanwhile, Ian Young, with Brain Ruffhead, Aileen McKenzie and Joan Laing needed a six-shot penalty to claim the points from Marion Shephard’s depleted rink of Colin Barnett and Nicola Orr.
All this leaves Craig top of the league on shots – without actually stepping on the ice!
The Pairs competition progressed on Sunday with wins for Craig Anderson over David Shephard, Ian Young over Jenny McGlynn, and Andy Cooper (subbing for Dorothy Robson) over Bob Ogilvy.
In the first round of the Forfar Challenge, the Suttieside team of Marion Shephard, Lorraine Grieve, Ann Kellie and David Shephard (skip) stormed to a convincing win against Forfar Ladies, helped by two fives.
In the Agricar League, Suttieside 1, skipped by Brian Bonnyman had a comfortable victory against Lundie and Auchterhouse, while Suttieside 2, skipped by Ian Kellie, overcame Edzell in a much closer affair.
Both Suttieside teams have comfortable mid-table positions with six rounds of games still to play.
Finally, the week ended on a disappointing note when Suttieside’s opponents in the Area 9 Grant trophy failed to put in an appearance.
Although we got credited with a six-nil win, it would have been much better to win on the ice.
