Balhousie Lisden Care Home held a special celebration on Thursday after winning the Residents’ Participation Award in this year’s ‘Balhousie in Bloom’.
Staff and residents at the Kirriemuir home were presented with their award before enjoying a tea party with relatives, friends and the local community.
Throughout the summer, Balhousie Care Group invited each of their 25 care homes to put their horticultural talents to the test in their annual gardening competition.
The competition was devised to encourage residents and staff to engage and interact with their communities to help create beautiful gardens and wonderful experiences for everybody to enjoy.
Director of Operations, Louise Barnett, said: “It’s been wonderful to see how much time and effort has been put into the gardens and the residents at Lisden really impressed us with their engagement in the project.
“We introduced the Balhousie in Bloom competition as it provides the homes with the opportunity to work with others in the community, both old and young, as well as being a fantastic initiative that provides residents with a sensory and therapeutic experience and a place to enjoy.”
Magdeana Laing, home manager at Balhousie Lisden Care Home, added: “We’re delighted Lisden has been awarded the Residents Participation Award. It was lovely to see the residents getting involved in the project and they enjoyed seeing the garden blossom over the summer. They all worked very hard and should be proud of their achievements.”
The judging panel was impressed not only by the standard of submissions across the homes but with the work of all communities and partners involved in the projects.
