Asda solve pool parking problem

PARKING at the Forfar Swimming Pool has been an issue for people wishing to use the facility for many years, writes Hannah Messer.

The Forfar Swimming Pool is situated in the heart of the town at The Vennel, and is within a walking distance of all the shops and cafés that the town has to offer. It is because of its central location, however, that the facility is lacking in car parking spaces at the rear of the building.

The Forfar Swimming Pool is an ideal location to go for a relaxing swim during or after a hard day.

The pool is a popular attraction for all ages in the town and offers a wide variety of classes and activities such as parent and child swimming lessons, both adult and children’s lessons as well as Aqua Natal classes, family sessions and Circuits classes in the gym

The Asda superstore on the New Road in Forfar has now agreed that members of the public can use their car parking facilities whilst they are using the swimming pool.

Asda also funded a new handrail down steps which offer access to the swimming pool which used to be a fire escape for the old factory.

Robert Hallyburton, the store manager at Asda in Forfar, said: “One of the great things about shopping at Asda is that we can save families money to mean they can treat the kids to activities like a trip to the swimming pool! We know that a lot of our customers use the swimming pool as well as visit our store, and are happy for them to use our car park when they go for a dip. Funding the hand rail was the right thing to do and we were happy to support it.”

Deputy store manager Joe McGrath met with Forfar and District Councillor Ian McLaren on Thursday morning and Mr McLaren said: “The steps leading from Asda to the swimming pool have now been fitted with a safety rail which was funded by Asda. This is an excellent example of both business and council working together in order to benefit the community.”
