Aldbar WRI held the first meeting of the new session in Guthrie Hall. Mrs V Gouck presided. Mrs Sheila Bruce spoke about what the judge is looking for in handicraft or baking competitions.
Mrs Daun and Mrs McLaren were tea hostesses and a vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs Nancy Craig.

Mrs Helen Hudson, vice-president, welcomed members and guests to the opening meeting on September 3. The guest speaker was Mr Ian Christie of Christie’s Nursery in Westmuir. He presented a slide show of lovely landscaped gardens with flowers and plants acquired during his worldwide travels. He also discussed the history and development of his Nursery, and shared gardening tips.
Thanks were given to Mrs Helen Hudson and Mrs Beryl Bennet for a lovely supper.
Competition winners were: Jar of strawberry jam - 1, Ann Cook; 2, Helen Hudson; 3,Evelyn Thomson. Bundle of tied garden flowers - 1, Sharon Wilkendorf; 2, Helen Hudson; 3, Isobel Keillor.
The next meeting will be in the Westmuir Hall at 7.15 on October 1, open to members, and guests interested in joining.
The National Golf Competition was held on Monday at Dunnikier Golf Club, Kirkcaldy.
Twenty-one teams took part. Judy Goodfellow and Hilary Wallace, Auchterhouse WRI, won The Potato Marketing Board trophy with an 87. They were fourth in the handicap Competition which was won by the SC&WP team of Joyce Mulgrew and Shirley Rankin.
The 28th National Conference took place on Saturday 12 September 12 at the Assembly Hall, The Mound, Edinburgh.
Another honour made its way to Angus with Kathleen Davidson, Glen Isla WRI, winning the Warnock Trophy.
