App to help those affected by suicide is launched

A NEW mobile ‘phone app to reach people affected by suicide has been launched.

The app, which was launched at Tannadice Stadium, Dundee, last Wednesday is designed to reach people who would not normally contact services for help.

This is the first suicide specific app in Scotland, and possibly the UK.

Choose Life Angus and Dundee, working with Faff Digital, has created an app called Suicide? Help! available to download free from the Apple and Google app stores. This innovative way of providing help was inspired by the soaring use of social media and technology for self help.

Gail Forrest, Choose Life co-ordinator, said: “The Choose Life Steering Group was very keen to not only target our at risk group of middle aged men but also the general community of Angus and Dundee.

“We agreed that an app was an innovative way of reaching people who would otherwise not normally engage with services.

“This way, people who are suicidal themselves, or know of someone who is suicidal can download the app and know how and where to seek further help.

The app can be downloaded free on google play and iTunes.
