Splash 2014 is set to launch in just over a week, on Saturday, September 27 at 1.30 p.m.
The organisers think this year’s relay swim will be the biggest and most exciting ever - as befits the event’s 25-year historic milestone.
Over 300 swimmers have booked their team time slots at Webster’s Pool and are poised to meet an ambitious £10,000 fund-raising target in four hours.
Community, school and club teams will all compete for individual distance trophies and a serious challenge will be mounted on the 138 lengths Splash Shield record held since 2009 by Dundee Aquatics Swimming club.
Team appearance times will appear in next week’s paper but teams can phone 01575 572129 for earlier confirmation.
The organisers ask all team members to take their sponsor funds for collection at the event and arrive at least 15 minutes before their appearance time. Poolside commentary will be provided by John Neeson and safety cover by the pool’s lifeguards who will also compete. Trophies will be presented at 5 p.m. by Angus Council leader Iain Gaul.
A Splash spokesman said: “Unconfirmed rumours persist of a local press team entry. Our local newspapers have played a vital part in Splash success since 1990 as have the many local firms and Kirriemuir Rotary Club who donate as lane sponsors to the swim.
“Support from Angus and Tayside people has been tremendous - their generosity is appreciated.”
