PLANS for a re-union of third year pupils at Forfar Academy when the new building was opened by the Queen Mother in 1965 are taking shape.

The big event is to be held in Forfar Academy assembly hall on Good Friday (April 22).

The event will run from 7 pm to 11 pm, with a two-course buffet, a welcome glass of wine, tea or coffee and celebration cake included in the £20 ticket.

It is also intended to have a bar facility, optional tours of the Academy, school photographs on a power-point display and a background of sixties music.

Invitation letters with return payment slips attached will be sent out to all those expressing an interest in attending.

If the event is of interest to you the organising group members would welcome any school photographs at least one week prior to the event so that they may be shared with others on the night.

The school is also keen to build up its archives by scanning (with permission) any photographs from the sixties, while memorabilia from that era is also being sought.

Of interest to the organising group will be class photographs from 1965, together with pictures of other local events of that era, two that spring to mind being the opening of the Guide Dog Centre in Forfar and the Forfar pageant.

Examples of the class photographs that the organisers are seeking are featured here – one showing second year pupils pictured outside the old Forfar Academy building prior to the September move in 1965, and the other showing third year girls who were attending the new Forfar Academy in 1966. If you have any more look them out!
