President Ian Stewart welcomed 43 members and three guests to last Tuesday’s Forfar Probus Club meeting.

The guest speaker was Gail Renwich to delivered a talk entitled ‘The Night I Slept With 24 Men’.

The intrigue of this title was perhaps reflected by the attendance of members!

Gail lives in Tannadice but was born and brought up in Sheffield and lived in the North East of England before moving North. She has been part of the Roman re-enactment scene for a long time and described her part in these activities as depicting a Roman British woman of the 1st century. Gail went on to explain that the title of her talk related to her experiences under canvas while carrying out re-enactments over her times in the outdoors, with mainly male participation.

To accompany her talk she had a series of coloured slides showing how Roman Soldiers would have been dressed in accordance to their military rank and the wide variety of weapons used by them along with everyday items. Gail delivered her talk without any written notes and showed the passion she has for this absorbing subject.

It kept the members mesmerised for almost an hour and a lively question and answer session followed. The vote of thanks was given by John Webster.
