There is a big treat in store for whisky fans at the Glenesk Retreat later this month with a whole evening dedicated to the tipple.

So, if you enjoy a malt whisky, a plate of delicious home-cooked food and a fantastic film then the date for your diary is Friday, October 18 when Angus Arts hosts a film screening and whisky tasting event.

Sue Waddicor, Angus Arts administrator, said: “We’re thrilled to be part of a pilot project entitled NEAT Flicks which enables us to show films in a rural venue.

“We thought it would be nice to show a Scottish film as our first one, so we’ve chosen Ken Loach’s ‘The Angel’s Share’, a heart-warming, bitter-sweet comedy and winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

“As the film focuses on the malt whisky industry it seemed like a great opportunity to let people try out some malt whisky too.

“So we’ve teamed up with the staff at The Retreat in Glenesk who will conduct a pre-film whisky tasting session and are also offering a plate of home-cooked stovies (vegetarians catered for).

“If people don’t want to take part in the whisky tasting then that’s just fine, they can still come along for the food and the film.

“We do have to point out that the film has an 18 certificate due to some colourful language so unlike almost every event we’re involved in this is an evening strictly for grown-ups!

“It promises to be a great night and we’re all looking forward to it enormously.”

Angus Arts is well known for the wide range of arts experiences it offers bringing top quality theatre, music, puppetry, workshops and other events to a rural audience and they would like to thank NEAT Flicks, supported by Creative Scotland for making this event possible.

Door for the event open at 6.30 p.m. and tickets cost £10 for the film, whisky tasting and stovies and £5 for the film only (starts at 8 p.m.).

Tickets can be purchased from Angus Arts on 07914 341525, 01356 648669 or 01356 670304. You can e-mail angus.arts@btinternet.com or visit the Retreat in person to buy tickets too.

The Glenesk Retreat is a centre for the community of Glenesk, the east-most of the inspiring glens of Angus.

Originally built by a sea captain as a Retreat from the rigours of a sailor’s life, it is now the focal point of glen life and is home to a gift shop and art gallery, licensed restaurant and tearoom, party venue, conference facilities and community room.

From November 2, the Retreat will only be open at the weekends until January 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, there may be special events during the weekdays.
