A Kirriemuir great-grandmother is celebrating being £10,000 richer after her postcode was announced as the winner of the Saturday Street Prize last weekend with People’s Postcode Lottery.

Mrs Gertrude Stewart (71), who lives in winning postcode DD8 4HN, was thrilled with her win: “I already have 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and I have a third great-grandchild due any day now.

“The wee ones will certainly have some great treats coming their way.”

Mrs Stewart added:, “It is just lovely to know that luck does turn. I’ve won other prizes with People’s Postcode Lottery, but never as much as £10,000.”

As the only player living in the lucky postcode, Mrs Stewart was the sole winner to be visited by the People’s Postcode Lottery street prize team, including People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell.

Scott, who surprised Mrs Stewart with her cheque said, “How wonderful that Gertrude is going to spoil her family with her win.”

Scott added: “By playing People’s Postcode Lottery, Gertrude has helped to support charities and good causes across Great Britain. She, together with all the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, have raised more than £19.6 million to date.”

“In fact, over £100,000 has been awarded to good causes and community groups across the DD postcode region through the People’s Postcode Trust, funded entirely by the players of the Lottery.

“One particular project, the Factory Skatepark based in Dundee, has received over £30,000 in total from the Trust.

“Funding has been used to support the group’s Youth Support Services and engage with the local community.

“The Factory Skatepark is such a fantastic service for those living in Dundee and the surrounding area,” continued Scott. “The support from players like Gertrude allows the project to continue to make such a difference to the community.”

People’s Postcode Lottery is Britain’s charity lottery. Players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes in their area.
