THE "Dispatch" and "Herald" has learned that over 30 jobs in the building trade have been lost following the closure of a Forfar firm.
Tasker Building Services, based at Market Place in Forfar - having been operational for a quarter of a century - was forced to close its doors late last month.

Bryan Jackson, of PKF Accountants and Business Administrators, based in Glasgow, was a
ppointed a trustee to represent the interest of creditors in the wake of the closure.

He stated that the business had been hit by an unprecedented level of bad debts, an unfortunate set of circumstances that has left 25 employees and ten sub-contractors out of work.

Angus MP Mike Weir said his thoughts were clearly with the workers and their families at what is a very difficult time.

"This is another terrible blow for the local economy. When a firm which survived the last recession goes in this way it is an indication as to how bad things are and how the difficulties in one area have a knock on effect on other businesses.

"The construction industry has been particularly badly hit in this recession with the slow down in the property market and, despite the taxpayers bail out of the banks, credit has been very hard to get for many smaller firms compounding the difficulties.

"The Scottish Government have accelerated £100 million in money for investment in affordable housing.

"This is a move that has given a much-needed boost to the construction industry in Scotland, with the money available now having risen to £120 million. The UK government need to take stronger action to ensure that banks give the flexibility that is needed for smaller and medium sized companies to get through this recession."
