POLICE are appealing for information after a £3600 five-berth caravan was stolen from the Dundee Road area of Forfar.
The cream and maroon-coloured twin-axle tourer caravan, which is 18.5-feet long, was taken from Lochlands Caravan Park sometime between 2 pm on Sunday, May 18 and 10 am, Saturday, May 31. Clearly a vehicle would have been required to tow the caravan away.

Anyone who has seen this caravan or has information as to where it is now should call Tayside Police on 0845 600 5705, or speak to any officer. Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Around 3000 caravans are reported stolen in the UK each year, representing a major inconvenience to their owners, particularly as more than a quarter of them are never recovered.

Constable Derek Mitchell, crime reduction officer at Forfar said: "Owners should check their security measures to ensure they are adequate. Locking the caravan coupling head into a cover using a good quality hitchlock and fitting locking wheel nuts can be good deterrent.

"Always close all windows and doors, including the sky-light every time you leave your caravan and remember never to leave anything valuable on display. There are a number of products in the market place you can use to uniquely mark the caravan.

"The cheapest option is to use a permanent marker pen and writing the caravan vehicle identification number in hidden areas throughout the caravan. This helps police to identify the owner if it is stolen and subsequently recovered and can help with any prosecution."

For further security advice contact the Crime Reduction Officer at (01307) 303937.
