ITEMS being targeted by thieves were outlined to members of Forfar Community Council at their meeting last Thursday evening.
Constable Wendy Craigie reported diesel, garden and building site thefts had been carried out and she urged members of the public to be vigilant.

Tayside Police are warning members of the Angus business community to look after their fuel, particu
larly those who operate diesel commercial vehicles.

Members of the public are asked to report any suspicious activity immediately, including persons or vehicles seen within the vicinity of premises storing diesel.

Constable Craigie stated: "If you are offered cheap or cut-price diesel or fuel for sale, remember this may be proceeds of crime."

Tayside Police are also advising residents to watch out for garden thefts after two large stone lion statues were stolen from a garden in Forfar.

The size and weight of the items would likely have required a large vehicle or van to remove them.

Constable Craigie continued: "Many people have ornaments or statues within their gardens and often these are expensive or antique.

"With that in mind it is necessary to protect them so as not to make it easy for the thief.

"Valuable and antique garden ornaments and statues should be photographed and secured to an immovable object or consider concreting them into position. Property should always be marked."

Free security advice is available from the local Crime Reduction Officer on 01307 303937.

Finally, Tayside Police have warned building site owners within the Angus area to think about their security after recent thefts from the Carnoustie and Kingennie areas.

These were targeted for metal, predominantly copper fittings.

Again members of the public are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

"If you are offered cheap or cut price plumbing materials, remember this may be proceeds of crime and, if so, not only are you dealing with someone else's misery but you are committing a crime."

If you have any information in relation to these incidents or which you think may be useful to the police, contact Tayside Police on 0845 600 5705 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
