PARENTS have again been urged to take responsibility for children in their care and to ensure they know their whereabouts.
During the police report at this month's meeting of Forfar Community Council, members heard that, since April 1, 2008, Tayside Police has seized 341 litres of alcohol from youths.
A spokesperson for Tayside Police explained: "Youths under the inf
luence of alcohol are more vulnerable to becoming victims of crime.
"Alcohol is also a contributory factor in a number of crimes and anti-social behaviour incidents reported to police.
"This, coupled with the obvious health and safety issues, gives great cause for concern.
"Tayside Police and its partners encourage parents/guardians to take responsibility for the young person in their care, and to ensure they know their whereabouts and behaviour.
"We also encourage members of the public to report any person suspected of supplying alcohol to youths to either contact Tayside Police on 0845 600 5705 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The meeting also heard of the devastating effect drugs can have in local communities.
Where an increase of drug dealing is experienced, invariably there is also an increase in violent and acquisitive crime as well as associated anti-social behaviour.
Tayside Police are keen to take robust action regarding the dealing of drugs and again anyone with any information is urged to contact Tayside Police on the above numbers.
