FINAL preparations are being made this week to the premises of a vacant store situated on one of Forfar's main streets.
The former Woolworths store on Castle Street has lain vacant for around eight months and will be given a new lease of life when it opens its doors on Friday as the new Pound Mart.
The Chichester-based company Pound Mart specialises in selling high street brands at low prices and has employed 14 members of staff who comprise some of the 26 former Woolworths employees made redundant at the turn of the year when all 807 UK branches closed.
Pound Mart has also opened a store in Cupar recently and commenting on these developments in July was Daniel Elsom, a buyer for Pound Mart, who said the company is keen and excited to open in small towns.
He explained: "We like fairly small communities and are aware how important Woolworths was to them.
"It is key to find stores that should and could serve the local area like Woolworths did and that is why we will be selling similar products."
