MEMBERS of the Drugs Initiative Group Forfar made a "Pitstop" at the Orchardbank Business Park premises of the Forfar Roof Truss Company Limited on Monday afternoon.
The mission? To accept a £250 sponsorship cheque from the company, to aid group members to participate in a number of team building exercises.

Development worker Sylva Breen welcomed the Roof Truss support, explaining that it will aid the work being carried out by the Drugs Initiative Group to support young people who are not in employment, training or education.

"We are a grass roots community organisation that is a registered charity providing a service for young people living in Forfar and the surrounding area.

"The centre is run and managed by individuals living within the local community.

"The Drugs Initiative Group Forfar offers a range of services to young people aged 11 to 21 years.

"Primarily, our core activities consist of providing young people with four drop-in provisions in the evening and a couple of drop-in sessions during the day.

"During these sessions, youth work staff look to build on trusting and respectful relationships with young people, while identifying young people's needs and interests.

"Young people are then supported to plan and implement activities and projects in line with their needs and interests.

"Youth work staff offer young people guidance and support while sign-posting them on to other relevant services.

"Our day-time drop-in provision has a specific focus, targeting young people who are not in employment, training or work.

"These sessions are in partnership with Careers Scotland and we have a careers adviser who attends weekly.

"We work closely with young people to build up their confidence, self esteem and skill base while supporting them to move towards the world of work or further education establishments."
