FORFAR Community Councillors have welcomed funding from the town's Common Good Fund which will help ensure the Andrew Smyth Award has a future.
Members of Angus Council's corporate services committee agreed to an annual payment of up to a maximum of £450 to the Andrew Smyth Memorial Award Committee.

Mrs Isobel Ross, chairman of Forfar Community Council which set up the award in 1980, said: "The committee is really pleased with the Common Good Funding.

"It will secure the future of the award financially. I think it's only right the Forfar Common Good Fund takes this on because Andrew Smyth served this town for 50 years through all the various stages and changes of Government, becoming a Freeman of the Town."
