ON a cold and snow swept Tuesday morning, an intrepid group of Forfar Probus Club members braved the elements and met in the British Legion Hall to be transported to sunnier climes courtesy of Mrs Liz Nicoll.

The speaker gave an interesting slide show on Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast with visits to Pompeii, the Isle of Capri, Mount Vesuvius, Naples and finishing at Monte Cassino, the scene of fierce fighting in the latter part of the second world war.

The talk was illustrated with excellent slides and interesting and informative information from Mrs Liz Nicoll who has travelled extensively, and has recorded these travels to be shared by many in our community, indeed, Forfar Probus Club have shared in many of these travels over the years.

As a footnote, and on a poignant point, the last slide shown was of the grave and headstone of a young Scottish soldier who made the final sacrifice at Monte Cassino on April 3, 1944, the exact day and month that Liz was delivering her talk.
