Northmuir WRI a.g.m.
MRS Elma Dickens welcomed everyone to the Northmuir WRI AGM.
The Trophies were presented by Mrs Madge McLaren.
Prize winners were as follows: Jubilee Trophy - Joan Brown and Mary Steele (equal); Elizabeth Mitchell Quaich -June Archibald, Runner up - Elma Dickens; McLaren Salver - Eleanor Duncan and Mary Steele (equal).
The guest for the meeting was David Orr who gave a very interesting talk about the Gairie Burn from its source at Kinnordy to where it joins the Dean just outside Forfar.
His talk was accompanied by slides.
PRESIDENT Janey MacFarlane welcomed members to the May business meeting of the Kilry WRI before the new committee was elected. Guest speaker Sheila Brinkley gave a most interesting talk and slide show on Scottish wild flowers.
Competitions: Five named wild flowers in a jam jar - 1 Angela Randall, 2 Elma Kydd, 3 Joan Donaldson; Tea plate size rhubarb tart - 1 Isobel Buick, 2 Elma Kydd, 3 Joan Donaldson.
WRI whist drive
MEMUS and Fern WRI staged a successful whist drive in the Glens Hall in early May. The results were as follows:- ladies – 1, Isobel Gray; 2, Anne Morrison; 3, Ella Cameron, booby, Dorothy Jolly; gents – 1, Vernon Watt; 2, Jim Lawson; 3, Jim Smith; booby, Ken Gray.
The card master was Jim Smart. At the annual general meeting of the WRI new committee members were elected, with Mrs Alexander and Mrs Kirky from Tannadice Institute acting as tellers. An enjoyable hour of music and blethers, courtesy of Jim Brown and friend, followed.
