PLAY EXPLORES THE ENIGMA OF BARRIE
ANGUS Council is presenting the new play Home to Neverland in the refurbished and impressively redecorated Kirriemuir Town Hall this Friday and Saturday, as part of the Barrie 2010 celebrations.
Devised and directed by Donald Smith and Splinters Productions, Home to Neverland explores the enigma of J. M. Barrie - the lad from Kirriemuir who became the world's leading playwright, the man who moved between whimsy and war, the boy who never grew up.
Tickets for Home to Neverland are available in Forfar from the library and the Meffan Art Gallery and in Kirriemuir from the library and the Gateway to the Glens Museum.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the organisers of Barrie 2010 regret to announce that the two drama workshops advertised for the Lesser Town Hall on Sunday, May 23, from 10 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 3 pm have been cancelled

Everyone's welcome to come along and have a chat, listen to the tunes and songs and join in as well.
Don't miss this fun event, designed to mark the end of Kirriemuir's fortnight of celebration of not only J. M. Barrie, the man and his work, but also the richness of Scottish culture, song and traditional music.

At Barrie's Birthplace, one of four National Trust for Scotland's properties in Angus, the celebrations will continue throughout the year.
The refurbished and re-interpreted exhibition, opened to great acclaim on the 150th anniversary of J. M. Barrie's birth on May 9, 1860, will continue to draw in visitors.
Watch the press for some exciting new developments, which will also be listed on www.barrie2010.org.uk.
In the meantime, if your name happens to be Wendy you will still be able to visit the Birthplace visit free until October 31.
On Thursday, June 3, Sandra Affleck leads the Sir J. M. Barrie Walk (walk number five of the Kirriemuir Walking Festival; see www.walkingfestival@angusahead.com).
Limited to a maximum of 20 people, this easy walk is a tour of Kirriemuir and marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir J. M. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan.
The walk follows the Kirriemuir Heritage Trail and takes in Barrie's Birthplace, the Camera Obscura and other interesting historic buildings.
This 4km/2.5 miles, two and a half hour circular walk starts at 10 am outside Kirriemuir Town Hall.
Entrance fees to Barrie's Birthplace and Camera Obscura are included in the cost of the walk which is 8. You can register by phone on 07960 839238.
From Wednesday to Saturday, June 16 to 19, KIST presents their latest production The Ghaists o Windyghoul.
A community-based theatre group, KIST's specialty lies in bringing to life events and characters from Kirriemuir's colourful past.
Never 'letting the truth get in the way of a good story,' KIST's team of gifted writers can make the line between fact and fiction becomes a tad blurred!
As far as possible, performances take place outdoors in or near the locations where the original events happened. Kirkyards, jails and ferms have featured in the past. The Ghaists o Windyghoul, the handiwork of Mary McIntosh, Jan Natanson, Lydia Robb and Frances Watt, raises the spectre of bygone wanderers through Caddam Wood with mirth as well as mystery.
As part of the Barrie 2010 celebrations, the play will be performed on site in Caddam Wood itself
In addition to booking through the website www.barrie2010.org.uk, tickets can also be reserved by post from Lis Hill, Co-ordinator Barrie 2010, Douglasmuir, Arbroath DD11 4UN or by telephone 01241 828600
