PACKED PROGRAMME AND FINE WEATHER FOR GALA DAY

FINE weather and a packed schedule were enjoyed at the Forfar Gala Week finale at The Myre on Sunday.

The Forfar and Area Partnership's first Forfar ambassadors are Eilidh Collins from Letham and Forfar's Brodie McCash.

The official opening by local businessman Mark Guild coincided with the presentation of awards to Forfar and Area Partnership's first Forfar Ambassadors, who will become a new voice on the body for the area's young people.

S3 Forfar Academy pupils Eilidh Collins, from Letham, and Forfar's Brodie McCash were selected for the role and arrived in chauffeur-driven style at The Myre.

Main area events included performances by local Taekwon-do club members, Highland dancers, belly dancers, gymnasts, African drummers and pipe bands from Forfar and Auchterhouse.

Around The Myre stalls and attractions did a roaring trade and one busy spot was the tent hosting the hour-long Angus Young Chef of the Year cook-off.

Courtney Milne (14) and Daniel Cashley (16), both of Forfar Academy won through to the gala day challenge and served up skills and tasted which impressed judges George Marshall of the Pear Tree restaurant at Auchterhouse and Pam Milne of Forfar's Queen Street Tavern.

Courtney's two courses edged out Daniel but the judges admitted their job had been a real test.

Alongside gala day, Angus Council's multicultural planning group joined forces with the Partnership to stage the area's fourth annual multicultural day.

A popular element was the opportunity to savour cooking demonstrations and tastings of Scottish, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Indian and Chinese cuisine.
