Rotarians toast the Bard

Kirriemuir Rotary Club held their annual Burns Supper in Kirriemuir Golf Club.

Members and guests were welcomed by President Bill Keillor who introduced the speakers. Rotary member Ronnie Proctor gave an extremely accomplished Address to the Haggis, Gordon Withers proposed “The Immortal Memory” and Donald Clerk in his “Toast to the Lassies” drew on many of Burns’ loves, poems and songs to illustrate how big a part the lassies played in Burns’ life. Leonie Kiely, a Brummie lass no less, gave the Reply from the Lassies which was full of humour. Ken Smith’s rendition of “Tam O Shanter” was brilliant and atmospheric and fiddlers Frank Robb, Lindsay Downie, Catherine Mathews and Bob Spalding, accompanied by Yvonne Downie were on their very best form. Maureen Jelks and Jim Perry with a selection of songs completed the line up of excellent performances.
