Interesting talk on Forfar library

MEMBERS of Forfar and District U3A were hugely entertained and greatly amused by a talk given by Aileen Rodgers at last Wednesday’s meeting.

Aileen is a librarian in Forfar and her “Between the Lines” talk about Forfar Library past and present was of great interest.

It was filled with facts about the history of the library and its present day large range of resources.

Few members would have guessed that the equivalent of ten times the population of Forfar go through the doors every year.

Also, the number of children using the library would give lie to the often stated view that present day children don’t read.

Most memorable were Aileen’s humorous recollections of her early working days when Ernie Mann was senior librarian.

At the end of the talk members enjoyed a fun quiz based on local place names.

The membership secretary informed the meeting that there are now fifty paid up members but more would be welcome and information is available on the website forfaru3a/co.uk.
