Kirriemuir businessman Paul Soutar is preparing for his next adventure of a lifetime which will take him to the Great Wall of China.

Paul is currently ticking off personal challenges on his ‘bucket list’ and his latest will see him trek for five days along 60 miles of one of the spectacular wonders of the world.

Last February he scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, raising £5400 which was split between Motor Neurone Disease, Juvenile Diabetic Research and Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

This time he is raising funds for SUDEP action, Action for M.E and Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Kirriemuir.

He told us: “I chose SUDEP after meeting Chris Stephens on our challenge to climb Kilimanjaro last year. He told us about sadly losing his wife Katie at the young age of 37. She was an undiagnosed epileptic and had no warning of her condition. So I’m doing this trek in Katie’s memory and to help raise awareness.

“I am also fundraising for Action for M.E. I want to raise awareness of M.E as I have suffered with it for over 25 years. It will help to research and hopefully find help for people who suffer with it.

“And lastly - Cancer Research UK Relay for Life. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. I’m part of a team taking part in this Relay for Life in Kirriemuir. It is my sixth relay and it is Kirriemuir relay’s 10th anniversary.

“I have been raising money in the studio for all three charities and all will get an equal share.”

Paul has raised just over £2100 so far through a Christmas raffle, donation tins in the studio and money donated by clients.

He has also set up a Justgiving page which can be found on

Paul will head off to China on May 4 - and as well as concentrating on his fitness he is also looking forward to the finals of the Scotland Business Awards.

In November he was “delighted and humbled” to win the Best Kirriemuir Business category - and now he is through to the Grand Final which takes place at the end of May.
