Turbulent series

THE latest exhibition at The Meffan, Forfar is by Edinburgh based artist Daniel Cook.

Daniel’s work is drawn from a series of photographs taken in Wester Ross which, similar to many areas of the highlands, bears testament to a turbulent history. The Clearances and the forced abandonment of many of the dwellings evoke an eerie feeling. For the people who stayed, many of whom did not survive, the drive to make ends meet also changed the landscape. Daniel’s prints focus on engaging the ambiguity between reality and fiction. Photographs of the local landscape, abandoned structures and materials relating to human intervention provide backdrops for characters and objects which appear to be out of place and time. The exhibition opened last Saturday and runs until Saturday, March 10.
