KIRRIE LIBRARY CORNER, JUNE 4

KIRRIE Library has received a few books this month by big best-selling authors, and these titles are certain to be sure-fire hits:-

Romanno Bridge, Andrew Greig; Born Bad, Josephine Cox; Basilisk, Graham Masterton; Presumed Guilty, Tess Gerritson; The Truth About Melody Browne, Lisa Jewell; All That Glistens, Anne Baker; The Associate, John Grisham; Sand Against The Wind, Catriona McCuaig; The Kill Call, Stephen Booth.

Staff are currently reading and recommend the following:-

Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs:

This is the second book from Kate Jacobs; her first book " The Friday Night Knitting Club" is soon to be a movie starring Julia Roberts.

Comfort Food is exactly that; the main character is Gus Simpson a TV Cook who is losing ratings and her TV channel take drastic action to stop the decline and decide to start filming live shows featuring her friends and family in her own home.

Things don't always go to plan both on set and off, a nice comfortable read with plenty food to nibble on in the process.

Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult:

Once again the author tackles a highly controversial subject well, this book is thought provoking and views the world through the eyes of Willow, a young girl with osteogenesis imperfecta - a very severe form of brittle bone disease where even a sneeze could cause a break - and those closest to her, the parents, her big sister Amelia and Piper her mum's best friend and her obstetrician.

Willows' mum decides to embark on a law suit of wrongful birth to try to provide the financial support that Willow will require all her life, however this does mean she is suing her best friend, this ironically means that it's not just Willow's bones that break.

Just Take my Heart by Mary Higgins Clark:

Another chilling thriller from the Higgins Clark family; a famous Broadway actress is murdered in her own home with no sign of a break in - was it her estranged husband who has memory lapses, or someone else?

The police have no firm clues until two years later a known criminal tries to plea bargain a shorter sentence in return for some incriminating evidence against the actress' husband. Who is telling the truth though? And can prosecutor Emily Wallace find the right man guilty?

Rhymetime:

There are still two Rhymetime sessions to go in June before we take a break over the school summer holidays.

These dates are Wednesday, June 10 and 24 at 9.15 am in Kirrie Library, and all are warmly welcome to attend. Tots under five will be invited to take part in the Bookstart Crawl challenge of reading six books over the school summer holidays. More details to follow soon.

Chatterbooks:

The next girls meeting will be on June 11 and boys on June 25. These will also be the last meetings before the school summer holidays.

All primary school children are being invited to complete this year's summer reading challenge "Quest Seekers". Look out for more details to follow soon!

Girls Say It Loud in Kirrie:

The girls are busy reading preview copies of the forthcoming novel "Deathwatch", very kindly forwarded to the group by the author Nicola Morgan.

A sinister tale of a teenager called Cat, a talented athlete who is being stalked by someone after she gives out too much information on a social networking site - it is sure to be a very popular read!

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 pm in Kirrie Library.
