KIRRIE LIBRARY CORNER, JULY 9

Amongst the latest titles added to stock recently at Kirrie Library are the following interesting non-fiction reads:-

Michele Obama, a biography by Liza Mundy; The Necklace - 13 women, 1 Diamond and a Fabulous Idea by Cheryl Jarvis; Round the World flying, the journal of a Scottish emigrants Voyage by Carol Mc Neill; and Best walking trips in Scotland.

Staff are currently reading and recommend:-

The Kinsella Sisters by Kate Thompson.

Two sisters from the small sleepy town of Lissamore on Ireland's West Coast are poles apart both in personality and relationship, until the death of their father brings them back together. Rio has always dreamed of living in her cottage by the sea, however a Dublin big shot has built a party pad on the site of her dreams. Her sister Dervla is an estate agent who has house dreams of her own - can the sisters maintain their relationship and realise their dreams for the future? A delightful story that carries you along like the waves breaking on the Irish beach where it is set.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

How would you feel if the only reason you had been born was to save your sister's life? That is what happened to Anna; she was born to become a donor for her sister who has leukaemia, and by the time she reaches her teens she has had enough and wants her body back. Currently showing in cinemas starring Cameron Diaz, this book is powerful and though provoking enough for us to read this again, as are all Picoult's novels. If you haven't read one before, then what are you waiting for? - Read this to prepare for seeing the film!

Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich.

This latest offering by one of our favourite authors is described as a "Stephanie Plum Between the numbers Novel" so staff at Kirrie Library looked on this as a bonus. Featuring all the usual characters, including bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, over-the-top sidekick Lulu, hilarious Grandma Mazur men in her life cop Joe Morelli and bounty hunter Ranger, and a wide range of lovable rogues and criminals, including Diesel, who is involved in a new case which takes Stephanie to the Barrens and involves a lot of monkeys wearing metal helmets - well up to the high standard of entertainment we have come to expect from this popular author.

Rhymetime

Staff and regulars celebrated the last Rhymetime session before the summer break with special Teddy Bears Picnic, which was greatly enjoyed by all. Over the summer, all under fives are being encouraged to take part in the Bookstart Crawl, where tots receive certificates for each book read, and if six certificates are collected, then the child will be presented with a small teddy at a special ceremony after the school summer holidays.

Chatterbooks

Chatterbooks has also finished for the summer, but all children are being encouraged to take part in the annual summer reading challenge, this year entitles "Questseekers". Children are challenged to enrol in the quest, read a book a week over the holidays, collect stickers and small free gifts, and complete the challenges and competitions; and if successful, they will be presented with a certificate and a medal at a presentation ceremony in August.

Teenage

The teenage group is also on a break for the school holidays, and staff are busy consulting with members of the group to find a more suitable time for the meeting, as well as draw up an exciting programme for future meetings.
