Festival of youth

RON Stewart is to replace George Donald at the February concert of the Tayside Symphony Orchestra.

Ron is well-known to Angus audiences, playing a major role in the production of many shows, and as a leading member of the Big Band Sound and director of Keltic Fiddlers.

Ron will take on the persona as narrator in three of the programme’s musical items.

As the title suggests, the “February Festival for Youth” comprises music which should appeal to young people, including Peter and the Wolf, the “Theatre Ghost”, prelude to “Hansel and Gretel”, Copenhagen Steam Galop and the “Return of Superman”.

The concert takes place on Saturday, February 4 in the Reid Hall, Forfar, beginning at 7.30 pm, with doors opening at 6.45 pm.

Ron Walker, TSO conductor said: “We expect this concert to be popular as it contains very many familiar items.

“A similar concert last year produced an audience in excess of 500, so get your ticket as soon as possible.

“As in the past we will run a bus from Montrose/Brechin to Forfar in the evening of the concert; for further details contact John Stevenson (Montrose 676492) as soon as possible.

“We like to encourage young people not only to play in the orchestra but also to attend our concerts; under-16s accompanied by an adult can normally get in free of charge but as this is a special event for youngsters we are offering a further opportunity to enjoy our music. In the afternoon we would welcome them to our final rehearsal in the Reid Hall, starting at 2 pm.

“Schools can bring groups to this practice or the young people can attend on their own.

“I wish to emphasise that although the music is aimed particularly at the young, we would want our loyal adult audience to attend in their usual supportive fashion.”

Tickets are on sale from the Toy Castle, Castle Street, Forfar; Hoggs, High Street, Montrose; any member of TSO/TSO committee; a limited number of tickets may be on sale at the door at the concert.
