Astaria Quartet to entertain

Forfar Arts Guild is delighted to welcome the talented Astaria Quartet to the East and Old church hall this Thursday (February 16) at 7.30 pm.

Violinists Kate Bickerdike and Kelly McCusker, viola player Shulah Oliver, and ‘cellist Sean Gilde are happy to share their joy and talent as their busy schedule of performing and coaching takes them up, down and across the country as the Astaria Quartet, as well as very varied solo careers in the performing arena.

The quartet was awarded an ‘Arts4All’ lottery award to study with the distinguished doyen of chamber music, Gabor Takacs-Nagy in Geneva, as well as a bursary to attend the prestigious ‘International Musicians’ Seminar’ in Prussia Cove, Cornwall, and take part in many master classes.

They are very proud of their work for the ‘Council for Music in Hospitals’, and are very committed to work within the community, in schools and special schools, coaching and giving integrated talks and recitals.

Most recently, they have completed their first album of music from Spain and Latin America, called ‘Fiesta’, including works by Villa Lobos, and Piazzolla wh, which the audience will hear in Thursday’s concert.

In a slight change to the programme, Astaria will perform an ‘America’s’ first half, giving the audience Samuel Barber’s quartet Opus 11, followed by Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Tango Ballet’.

It will be a lovely evening of contrasts, played by experts and enthusiasts, and guaranteed to drive away every thought of dreary weather!

Pop along and enjoy in the East and Old Parish Church hall, Chapel Street on Thursday at 7.30 pm. Tickets are adults, £7 and children £1, and all are most welcome.
