EIGHT-LEGGED TWIST TO ANNUAL FUND-RAISER

AN annual fund-raiser will take on an eight-legged twist this year when a social care officer faces her fears to raise money for the comfort fund of Beechhill House in Forfar.

Brechin resident Lesley Thomson is organising a dog show at the care home for July 18 and in a separate event, to boost funds even further with the help of sponsorship, she will be acquainted with a number of taranchula spiders.

Lesley, who has worked at the care home at Lour Road for 19 years, said: "I'm terrified! But I am hoping people will help out and sponsor me.

"I am organising this with Angus Pet Emporium in Monifieth to take place during the week following the dog show. They offered me to take the spiders home but I was frightened they would make an escape in my car! So we decided to do it in the store and I might even let one walk across my hand.

"I am raising money for the comfort fund at Beechhill House which is used to take service users out on trips in the minibus, to lunch and dinners, and also to bring entertainment into the home.

"Last year 380 was raised. Over the years many local businesses have been very supportive of the dog show. There will be burgers and tombola on the day, and we will have our own judges, prizes and rosettes for titles such as best puppy, most handsome puppy, best dressed and dog you would most like to take home."

This year's dog show will be on Sunday, July 18, and will open at 2pm. To sponsor Lesley or for more information contact 01356 625883 or Beechhill House on 01307 462758.
