A one-stop shop for family history researchers will take place on Saturday, September 24 at Discovery Point, Dundee.

Tayroots, the Angus Council family history project in partnership with Dundee Council, will offer a beginners’ workshop and superb lectures by three of the top genealogists in the UK today – Dr Bruce Durie, Chris Paton and Andrew Nicoll.

Bruce Durie will be familiar to listeners to BBC Radio Scotland’s popular series ‘Digging Up Your Roots’, and he returns to Dundee this year to tell us about the fascinating Scottish DNA Project, which is based at the University of Strathclyde – in his presentation ‘Genes and Genealogy – Who Are You Really?’

Chris Paton will be offering a workshop on ‘Getting Started with Your Family History’ for anyone who is keen but needs help to get going or solve problems or get around obstacles.

Keeper of the Scottish Catholic Archive Andrew Nicoll will be coming along this year to cast light on Catholic family history and to talk about what researchers can derive from the rich resource of the Archive.

Stallholders at the Fair in the Robert Falcon Scott Suite will include representatives from a variety of Scottish groups and businesses.

Family history societies, local history and heritage societies from the Borders, Fife, Angus, Dundee, the Central Belt and Aberdeenshire will provide free information, books for sale, and practical guidance on family history throughout Scotland.

The Genealogy Fair is free to attend, and visitors to the Fair will also be offered half-price admission to the Discovery exhibition and vessel.

Tayroots is a joint initiative by Angus Council and Dundee City Council, supported by the European Regional Development Fund, to encourage family history researchers to come and walk in the footsteps of their ancestors
