AS FROM June 6 the pupils at Forfar Academy will have 41 periods a week instead of the current 40.

It is the most obvious of a number of changes to the school time-table which are the result of a review of school curriculum conducted by a working party in recent sessions.

Although there is to be no change in the opening or closing times or the lunch break for the school, Wednesday is to become a nine period day instead of the present eight period day.

A TOTAL of 40 flats at Newmonthill are to get wall insulation at a cost of almost £8,000 to Angus District Council.

The works to take place include thermal insulation of cavity walls with blown mineral fibre to four and five storey blocks of flats and maisonettes and will cost £7,996.

ANGUS District Council’s parks and recreation service, in conjunction with Forfar Amateur Swimming Club, have combined forces to attract Olympic gold medal winner David Wilkie MBE to Forfar as part of the town’s Gala Week celebrations.

The council has agreed to sponsor the swimming club’s gala evening, to be held at Forfar Swimming Pool on Wednesday, June 16, when David Wilkie will be the guest of honour.

FORFAR’s community bus for the disabled is in danger of grinding to a halt - due to an acute shortage of drivers!

The Forfarian is in constant demand, transporting the elderly and disabled around the town and district, and anyone who can spare a few hours can contact David Hobbs.

GORDON Ramsay, who has been with the fund raising department of Guide Dogs based in Forfar, has taken over the new position of Fund Raising Volunteer Development Manager covering Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A LOCAL woman has had to put her wedding on hold due to the ongoing conflict in Iraq.

Angela Scott, of Strathmore Avenue, was due to wed Craig Buchanan at the East and Old Parish Church on May 10 but Craig is currently serving with The Black Watch in southern Iraq, whilst Angela’s sister is also stationed in the gulf.

In the meantime, Angela has been busy sending parcels containing Haribo sweets and crisps to Craig, which are in short supply in Iraq!
