DD8 Music has launched a new project designed to open up more avenues for and nurture the talent of the town’s youth.

The first session for film and photography was held on Monday offering those aged 12 to 16 the option to train and use both professional cameras and software.

The focus of the group, led by youth workers Graham Galloway and Craig Cantwell, will be decided by the young people who take part

Graham has 10 years’ experience in the film and television business.

He said: “The minute I mentioned I was thinking of running the course I had friends who still work in the industry get in touch saying they’d love to help.

“We’re looking at having regular guest speakers to speak about their jobs and career journey. So far I’ve got a professional movie stills photographer, a costume designer, a documentary director, a location manager and an animator who worked for Disney, on board. They bring a wealth of professional experience, having worked on everything from Marvel movies to Ken Loach films.”

The photography will be run by Craig, a professional photographer with years of youth work experience.

He said: “I am really looking forward to working in partnership with DD8 Music to help deliver this new project and share some of my experience. Young People will learn a variety of new skills and be able to gain an invaluable insight into the film and photography world.”

The project is open to all abilities for those between 12 and 16 years old. The sessions are free to those in the area with an interest in film and photography and will run every Monday from 5-7pm. To register or find out more email: graham@dd8music.com
