A pioneering project to reduce unnecessary out-of-hours call-outs for Forfar doctors and improve emergency treatment for their patients was given the go-ahead by the Scottish Office. The application had received funding totalling £80,000 for a pilot scheme.

Forfarian Norman Knight was revealed as the man pictured in one of the most famous images from the Second World War - a group of weary British soldiers huddling in a makeshift dug-out in the midst of a ferocious battle. The photo was taken almost 50 years to the day during the Battle of Arnhem.
