Ploughing competition

THE Kirriemuir District Agricultural Association has announced details of its ploughing competition and dance which take place next month.

Entrants are invited for the ploughing competition, sponsored by CS Tractors, which is open to competitors within the Kirriemuir Parish.

This includes the whole of the Parishes of Kirriemuir, Cortachy, Clova, Kingoldrum, Lintrathen, Airlie, Glamis, Tannadice, Oathlaw, the portion of the parish of Rescobie which lies to the west and north of the Forfar and Brechin highway (Aberlemno Road), that portion of the Parish of Eassie and Nevay which lies to the east of and including the farms of Castleton & Hatton of Eassie and that portion of the parish of Ruthven lying east of the River Isla.

Any size of field can be entered but it must be completed – including endriggs and gussets Minimum three furrow reversible plough to be used and no furrow press and no match ploughs allowed.

Entries must include a map of the field and a F.I.D. number. Entries cost £10 per field entered and will close on February 1. Judging will take place within two weeks of the closing date or as soon as possible thereafter – weather permitting.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £100.

The Association has also organised a dance which will be held in the Strathmore Hall at Forfar Mart on Saturday, February 4. Music will be by Wayne Robertson and there will be a pig roast.
