Sir,

On behalf of Angus Axis Gymnastics & Trampoline club I respond to the recent article in ardent support of a community campus facilitating sport in Forfar.

This is a long awaited development in the ever-expanding burgh that has outgrown the present facilities which are at full capacity and in the case of the swimming pool- does not meet 21st century expectations.

In our experience as a club we struggled for 18 months to find a training venue with closed doors where ever we explored.

We found that Lochside Leisure Centre is at bursting point and the three primary schools in Forfar do not cater for such clubs as ours.

It is superb to hear that Forfar Academy has been identified as a possible site for a community campus because in their current position this faculty also could not meet our request in our search for a venue.

A community campus would demonstrate a forward thinking initiative between the leisure services and education department in the most positive productive way, thus enabling clubs like us with performance coaches tucked away to increase opportunities to talented individuals with London 2012 just around the corner and Glasgow 2014 fast approaching Angus Council, following examples of local authorities such as Dundee Cities Leisure and communities is a fantastically refreshing thought for Forfar perhaps restoring a sense of community spirit I had concluded did no longer exist!

Yours etc.,

Wendy Milne,

Angus Axis GC & TC (head coach).

Sir,

Am I being cynical? I am all for a new replacement swimming pool for Forfar, but I have to ask where are the council going to get the money from?

Am I also correct in thinking that there is an election coming up in May?

Whilst I welcome the news there could be a new pool for Forfar, I am all for it, I think the possible site at Forfar Academy is wrong. It should have been built on what is now the Asda site.

Yours etc.,

Mr Michael Simm,

Forfar.
