FOR the first time in its five-year life span, the final of the Golden Ladder contest was won by home-grown talent, and, unfortunately, it may also be the last time - for a number of years at least.

With the emergence of so many other talent contests in the county, some with more attractive prizes, the Golden Ladder has lost some of its appeal.

LES Honeyman, the Perth singer, was the guest at the Folk Club. Originally it was to have been Les’s three-piece group, Stash, but his bass player and lead guitarist are now involved with a heavy rock band.

Forfar Athletic took themselves into the history books.

Their victory over Hearts at Tynecastle not only took them into the Scottish Cup quarter finals for the first time in their 98-year history, but also gave them the distinction of becoming the first Second Division club since the war to qualify for the last eight in both the League Cup and Scottish Cup in the same season.

The County Hotel applied for permission to cease trading as a hotel from the end of March.

The restaurant on the ground floor and a total of 12 bedrooms on the first and second floors were due to close.

Facilities at the Jock Neish Scout Centre in Tannadice were being expanded.

A new £140,000 building was due to be opened at Easter. It contained a number of rooms and shower and toilet facilities.

The project received grant aid from national and regional bodies.

A £232,000 programme of repair and improvement works was scheduled to be carried out at Wellbrae Primary School during the summer.

While work was ongoing the pupils had to be transferred elsewhere from early April to mid-August.

The project included the eradication of dry rot and timber infestation, rewiring and upgrading of electrical installation, upgrading of the heating system and installation of sinks and associated built-in furniture.
