The Meffan Diary

The MEFFAN is appealing to all Forfarians.

Do you have fond memories of childhood holidays spent in Angus?

Do you remember long summer days spent on the beach or were you one of the many hard at work picking berries?

If so the Meffan needs you!

From March 23 the Meffan’s new exhibition will be ‘Past Times’. It will portray the people of Angus at sport and play during the past 150 years, using the council’s collections and enhanced by your objects, images and memories.

Photographs are super for evoking memories of past times. If you have any that you think the museum might be interested in displaying and are happy to lend, why not pop in and speak to the staff by Saturday, March 9. The Meffan staff look forward to seeing you and hearing your holiday tales. They are especially interested in seeing holiday photographs taken when ‘Ma, Pa and the bairns’ went to the seaside for the holidays, having great fun making sandcastles and paddling in the (very cold) sea; or on an exciting day trip on the train to see the sights of the big city.

They are also very interested if you spent the holidays earning some much needed pocket money at the berries and have photographs showing the fruits of your labours.

The Christopher Wood exhibition, A Ragged Line, is on until Saturday, February, 9. It is one not to be missed.

The next exhibition is by Isla MacLeod. Isla, a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College, who uses mixed media to explore the subjects of life and death. Her exhibition opens on Saturday, February 16.

The Meffan is open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is completely free. So why not go in, spend some time and build up memories for your own future past times.
